Reusable beeswax food wraps last for up to 12 months.  They can then be freshened up with a beeswax refresher block (sold seperately) and they will be good to go again!

Beeswax is naturally antibacterial and breathable so the wraps keep food fresher for longer.  These wraps are slightly sticky to touch, so with the warmth of your hands you can mould the beeswax wrap around food.

To use, simply wrap, reuse and most importantly save plastic clingfilm going into landfill.

Queen Bee Wraps are handmade in their East Lothian workshop and are produced with the highest quality food-grade ingredients of beeswax, damar tree resin & jojoba oil.

Beeswax makes the cotton wrap waterproof, breathable and antibacterial, such are the wonderful properties of beeswax. This is what helps to keep food fresher for longer, like a second skin. Does the beeswax make the food smell? No our food-grade beeswax has a low odour meaning it will not impart a beeswax flavour to bread or cheese.

Damar Tree Resin adds extra stickiness to the food wrap helping it seal bowls and sticks to itself when wrapping food.

Jojoba Oil is actually a wax and is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic therefore it softens the wax stopping it from cracking when cold and helps keep food fresh. In the fridge or freezer the wrap goes hard but as soon as it is removed from the cold is opens easily without cracking, a vital ingredient.

Wrapping food doesn’t have to be dull, bring joy to the mundane with a Queen Bee Wrap!

  • Additional Information

If you feel a little residue on fingers after moulding a beeswax wrap, rub both hands to rub it in. It’s good for your skin, like a salve.

Queen Bee wraps are made with food grade beeswax, plant resin from the dammar tree and jojoba oil (which is a wax). Wraps made with just beeswax are slightly sticky but it is the inclusion of plant resin that helps the wrap stick to itself, china or glassware.

The beeswax wrap stickiness is activated by the warmth of your hands or room temperature.  When cold they are not very sticky. Over time the stickiness wears off, lasting up to a year. To make the bee wrap last longer use an alcohol-free dish detergent.

Beeswax wraps can last up to 12 months and maybe longer. It depends on how much you use them, and how well you take care of them. If they come into contact with hot surfaces or water over 60°C or 140°F the wax will melt and affect the durability of the product.

Beeswax has non-allergenic properties and unlike plastic, beeswax is a natural, nontoxic substance. It has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties helping keep things clean and reducing risks of contamination. Beeswax is also waterproof, yet still breathable, protecting your food from getting wet or wilted while locking in moisture, flavour and freshness.

How do I use my Queen Bee wrap?

Scrunch the new wrap to activate the stickiness then use the warmth of your hands to shape & seal around your food or container. It is best to use a beeswax wrap that’s much larger than the objects or food you’re wrapping. For example, a small wax wrap should completely cover the open half of a sliced onion or lime to be effective. When wrapping over bowls or plates, the wraps should fit down at least half way past the edge.

What are the wraps made from?

Queen Bee wraps are handmade in East Lothian, Scotland with certified food grade beeswax, natural tree resin and organic jojoba oil infused into 100% cotton fabric. Packaging is made from 100% recycled paper.

How do I wash my beeswax wrap?

Hand wash like a plate,  in cold water using a mild washing up liquid like Ecover or our washing up powder by Taylor Made Refills for example (better for the environment too).

Hot water and excessive scrubbing of the beeswax wrap will lessen the life of the wrap.   Cleaning the wraps by hand and not with a sponge or cloth with only light pressure may prolong the life of the wrap.

Leave to air dry, roll up and store ready for next use. Do not use in the dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble drier or other hot surfaces!

Do not dry on heated surfaces!

  • Ingredients and Allergen Information

    BEESWAX

Queen Bee Wraps use beeswax sourced from a UK supplier and is commercially rendered and filtered to remove any impurities. Their high grade beeswax has an EU food classification, E901 and are also used to coat foods to provide surface protection, prevent water loss and protect against ageing.

All beeswax contains naturally occurring propolis. Some people may be allergic to propolis, certainly if you are allergic to honey.

    DAMMAR TREE RESIN

Queen Bee Wraps use Dammar tree resin in their products. Many homemade wraps and commercially bought wraps contain Pine Resin.

Their wraps are 100% pine resin free. (also known as colophoney, pine gum, rosin)

Dammar (Damar) Resin is derived from 2 types of trees; Shorea Dipterocarpaceae and Shorea Javanica. Pine Resin is from the Pinus genus variety.

    Why use it?

    • Approved for use in storage of food, glazing agent and as a food additive.
    • Makes the beeswax  less brittle and adds a stickiness to the wrap helping it hold its shape and stick to itself.
    • No known allergies or reactions to damar resin like there has been for pine resin.
    • Safety data sheet rates damar resin 1/5 for health issues, same as beeswax, rock salt and sugar.
    • Pine resin is 2/5 due to the allergy profile.

    JOJOBA OIL

Queen Bee Wraps use pure cold-pressed jojoba oil. Jojoba oil has antibacterial properties and is an anti-inflammatory agent. In the wrap this helps food stay fresher for longer and adds suppleness to the wrap to make it more malleable.

    Fabric

Queen Bee Wraps use new, 100% pure cotton fabric in various designs. Cotton is used as it is a natural fibre and is biodegradable.
